Franklin NC, March 18, 2024: At a special congregational meeting, Sunday, March 17, First Presbyterian Church of Franklin voted to welcome Elizabeth Jean (Betsy) Stow as its new pastor, an invitation that Ms. Stow has joyfully accepted.
Ms. Stow grew up in Suffolk, VA and did her undergraduate work in Music at Wingate College in NC. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in Historical Musicology and a Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh in PA. Reverend Stow worked as a public librarian in the Savannah, GA region for 11 years before entering Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA in August of 2015. She completed her Master of Divinity degree in May of 2018 and was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Moving from the Atlanta area to Franklin, Reverend Stow will begin her service on April 15, 2024, preaching her first sermon as pastor on Sunday, April 21. A formal installation service and reception will be scheduled at a later date. Save the Date: April 21, Welcome Lunch for Reverend Betsy Stow. UPCOMING EVENTSMarch/April Dollars for Mission will aid the: Community Care Clinic of Franklin They are a Non-Profit 501c(3) Free Clinic located in Franklin, North Carolina. They have been serving the citizens ages 16 & up who reside in Macon County as well as the citizens of surrounding counties who are not able to afford healthcare elsewhere since 2010. Many of their patients are seen for supervision of chronic diseases such as diabetes. Through the clinic, patients can obtain care through medical supervision, lab testing/results, testing supplies, and medications including insulin. If not for their clinic, many of these community members would have no source of care and would be at risk for complications of their disease including hospitalization and possible death. Their free clinic serving low income and uninsured residents of Macon County is funded entirely by grants and donations. April 10 and April 24 - 2:00 p.m. - Sharing the Journey - M2 - Many of our elderly neighbors suffer from forms of dementia or memory loss and require constant care. Often, they are attended by a loving family member. Because of constant stress, these caregivers may experience fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Joining a support group affords the caregiver the opportunity to share with other caregivers facing similar challenges. The groups offer them the setting for sharing information, insight, advice, and encouragement. They form a trusted group built on empathy and compassion and where the participants can share their own feelings and needs. FPC Tiny Free Library
FPC invites you to visit the tiny library in front of the church sanctuary. You are encouraged to take a book as often as you like and then pass it on to someone else when you have finished it. A variety of topics is available (fiction and non-fiction) and the library is stocked weekly with new selections. The library was established in memory of former member, Martha Rainer, who served the church as an elder and chair person of the Christian Education team. |
